Debian GNU 2.2
Kernel 2.4.20 on an AMD Duron

Welcome to Eric the BBS. (yeah yeah, it's still called Eric :)
This is (probably) the last of a long line of BBSes I've run. (if you're
really curious about the history of this place, type history once logged in)
There's no doubt some features missing/bugs to be fixed, let me
know if there's something particulary annoying and I'll see if I can
fix it.

Greg

Neat. I typed in "telnet:hobbs.gawd.mb.ca" and Hyperterminal started
up with the BBS sign-on. I didn't know Hyperterminal could telnet.

Frootloop - try PuTTY for some flexible telnet program on Windows.

So many old-timers, I wasn't even around.

What happened to the waterslide park east of the Mint?
... yea, it's been a while since I've been there. But hey, August 3rd
isn't too far off. I pray that Winnipeg has unseasonable cold weather
for August!

Well, best we can do is keep hunting. Send me any new Winnipeg BBS info
that you uncover (same goes for everyone). I will work on an archive as
I get opportunitie.
.
I'd like to include information about people as well. Send me whatever
personal historical info you feel like providing (old haunts, handles,
who you were, etc), which I will also include. Hunt for other vets and
CMK's as well!

Hey Namor,

I'm using mTelnet as it's supposed to be the best client for ANSI emulation.
But I'll check out Putty too.

Well, best we can do is keep hunting. Send me any new Winnipeg BBS info
that you uncover (same goes for everyone). I will work on an archive as
I get opportunitie.
.
I'd like to include information about people as well. Send me whatever
personal historical info you feel like providing (old haunts, handles,
who you were, etc), which I will also include. Hunt for other vets and
CMK's as well!

Flexy,like toFlexy,

An Winnipeg historical BBS archive is a great idea.

I thought it'd be cool to have an interactive site with forums
and the ability to post comments about boards. BBSmates.com has those
features but it doesn't have the personal - local - touch to it so not
many people will probably find their way there.

Unfortunately I don't have much information to add. I wish I had kept
my old Generic BBS lists (pre-1990) and local computer magazines. I do
have some screenshots of the last remaining BBSs in Winnipeg that I took
a few years ago which are sitting on a dying (!) hard drive on my shelf.
I'll transfer everything off it some time - I've been meaning to do it
when I upgrade my temporary slow hard drive.

Does anybody remember the gaming BBS "Palace Bright"? Anybody know what
became of the Sysop? It was a really great game - sort of a precursor
to getting into MUDs for me. I remember it ran on an Apple II, then near
the end he ported it to DOS (I think) and was going to have multi-lines.

It would be cool to find some old capture files, or better yet someone
actually get a hold of the source code and binaries. I would love to see
how it looked from the Sysops end. Imagine putting it up on telnet to
too!

Oh yeah. I remember it got into a little bit of trouble from some Christian
group complaining that it was violent. And they didn't like the fact that
you could have sex between characters. (Even though, if I remember correctly
, it was hardly graphic. More like, "So and so have sex...")

So what does everybody think about the proposed water park in Winnipeg?
I think it's about time that we got one! I envied Edmonton and their excelle
nt water park (lots of fun, even if it costs $24/day per person.) The
downside is that you'll have to see my skinny pale geek body in swim trunks.
BAHAHAHA.
